My Fellow CIBOanos & Cebuanos,

During last year’s Transformation Summit 2021 Next Level Play, I outlined the 3 weapons that we employ to fight the war against the Tyranny of the S Curve, namely: 1. Innovation & Ecosystem Development, 2. Strat 8 Super Committees, and 3. The Triple Helix. The urgent necessity of effectively deploying these tools had been underscored by the twin calamities that hit Cebu these past few months: super typhoon Odette and the covid19 pandemic. While the pandemic is a worldwide problem, Odette was a calamity that particularly hit Cebu harder than other places as it tended to degrade Cebu’s comparative attractiveness as an investment destination. A strong countermeasure to offset that reputational degradation, therefore, needs to be highlighted. And that countermeasure exists in the same 3 weapons mentioned earlier most especially “Innovation & Ecosystem Development”.

Should there be any doubt about the effectiveness of this countermeasure, just ponder the situations of our successful neighbors Japan and Taiwan: both are also prone to natural calamities (typhoons and earthquakes). Yet, both countries continue to be superior economic performers. Thus, I invite you all to join us this July 13-15 as we once again reaffirm our commitment to making Cebu a choice destination for higher-value IT and IT-enabled services through the 3 weapons (Innovation & Ecosystem Development, Strat 8, Triple Helix).

Chairman, 2022 Transformation Summit

The Information Technology and Business Process Management or IT BPM industry is key mainly because of the young, educated, smart-working and tech-savvy Filipinos with good English communication skills. Many international research companies view the country as one of the top outsourcing and offshoring destinations in the world. The industry is generally divided into the following sectors: contact centers, back office services, data transcription, animation, software development, engineering development and game development. And it’s projected to move with demand in the knowledge process space such as project management, research and development, financial services, artificial intelligence and data science.

COVID-19 is continually changing day-to-day life in unprecedented ways. The recent super typhoon that hit Cebu paved the way, too, for more lessons learned to better our industry. The overall economic sentiment remains more positive than negative in a tele everything world we now lead and manage. What can we learn from each other? How can we best move the IT BPM industry forward? What do we need to do to stay ahead of the transformation?

CIB.O is excited to welcome you all to the 2022 Transformation Summit and Expo. Join us and let’s together shape the next level play.
